Yuki Nishimoto's sumi-e works, which until now could only be viewed in museums and exhibitions, are now available at YUGEN Gallery in limited quantities as artist-approved giclee prints. Now you can own museum-quality work made of the finest materials, supervised by Yuki Nishimoto himself. Giclee prints that authentically reproduce the intensity of the original work.
The works for sales are produced using the latest reproduction technology called "Giclee." In this process, digital data of the original work is reproduced in ultra-high precision and a wide color gamut on the highest-quality washi paper. This process renders the deep shadows and varying intensity of the original sumi-e painting for maximum impact. Giclee printing is also known for its longevity—under proper conditions the quality can be preserved for over 100 years. Yuki Nishimoto himself oversees the process and works together with printing professionals to create masterful finished works.

Each of the giclee works available for sale comes in an elegant frame. An experienced professional framer finishes each work by hand. The numbered edition prints are personally signed by Yuki Nishimoto and come with a certificate of authentication. Up to three sizes are available so you can select the size that best fits your needs.

Yuki Nishimoto
Sumi-e artist
Nishimoto is originally from Kagoshima Prefecture. Breaking all the rules of traditional ink painting techniques, Nishimoto creates works that evoke dynamism and strength in his trademark bold and refined style.
This rising star has held many live painting performances at international events and on TV programs, and was invited by Christie’s Auction House in Hong Kong to produce a live painting, which was then immediately sold for HK$85,000 (approx. 1.3 million yen). He paints both traditional motifs such as dragons and temples as well as contemporary motifs such as athletes and musicians.
In 2015, Nishimoto applied his trademark style of ink painting to ceramics to create the new contemporary art form of ceramic sumi-e painting. He paints on ceramic tiles with glaze, which are fired at high temperature to create works bursting with dynamism whose vitality will not fade for a thousand years. In February 2016, he opened the Yuki Nishimoto Ceramic Ink Painting Gallery, the first of its kind in Japan, in his current base of Fukui Prefecture.
His first solo exhibition, “Ryu no kiseki” ("Miracle of the dragon"), held at Fukuoka Asian Art Museum in January 2018, was a major hit and brought in a record 45,000 visitors to the museum during its one-month run. He is active around the world with his genre-defying style, including solo exhibitions and live performances in Europe, the United States and China, creating CG artwork and videos and collaborating in a range of fields.

鹿児島県出身。伝統的な技法に捕われず、大胆さと繊細さを持ち合わせたタッチで「躍動感」「力強さ」を追求した作品を展開する。国際的なイベントやTV 番組では度々「ライブペイント」を披露しており、香港クリスティズオークションに招待され、LIVE で描いた直後の墨絵が、85,000 香港ドル (約130 万円) で落札され一躍注目される。龍や侍などの古典的なモチーフから、スポーツ選手やミュージシャンなどの斬新なモチーフを描く。2015年に西元の墨絵タッチによる新しい現代アート「陶墨画」を公開。陶土の板に釉薬で描き、高温で焼き上げることによって、躍動感ほとばしるタッチが千年褪せない生命を得る作品となっている。2016年2月には、制作の拠点となる福井県に日本国内初となる「西元祐貴 陶墨画ギャラリー」がオープン。2018 年1月に福岡アジア美術館で開催された初の個展「龍のキセキ展」には1か月で45,000人の観客が押し寄せ美術館での動員記録となる大ヒットとなった。このほか、ヨーロッパ、アメリカ、中国など海外での個展やライブパフォーマンス、CG や動画、様々な分野とのコラボレーションなど、型に嵌らない活動スタイルで世界を舞台に活躍中。
