The Gotham Art Whores League (Edition)
This work was exhibited at the group exhibition "Literature in Dots." Adam Martin, a New York-based artist, uses the form of a visual novel to depict the reality of the art world, weaving together his own experiences and fiction. As the player advances through the text, they experience a tense atmosphere reminiscent of a horror game, and are confronted with various "realities" including sexual exploitation. The background photographs, which are blurred by image processing, and the standing character portraits with text overlapping in the foreground, are reminiscent of the novel game culture of the 1990s and 2000s. The artist, who has been immersed in such games, has created a work that is both a game as art and an art as a game.
It was created in 2019 and is being updated for 2024.
